The highly awaited "Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows: Part I" has finally opened in cinema houses the world over. We imagine rabid fans--some even costumed--camping out before Day One or midnight premieres to be counted among the first to see Harry, Hermione and Ron do battle with the 'death eaters.'
In Metro Manila, Philippines, the film has relegated the recent hit "Megamind" to just one theatre in the cinema complexes of the big malls--SM, Robinsons, Festival, Trinoma, Glorietta, Gateway-Ali Mall, and Greenbelt. In the SM Mall of Asia, for example, fans will be thrilled to watch Harry Potter kiss Hermione in 7 of the 9 theaters.
Finally, the Dark Lord Voldemort will have a recognizable face (we wonder how long it took to transform Ralph Fiennes' face before the first takes). What we're eager to do is to compare Dobby the House Elf compare 'acting-wise' with Golum of the Lord of the Ring franchise, both of them being computer generated.
The pleasure of a senior citizen Muggle like us is that have a magic wand--age--to gain easier access to Hogwarts. We don't have to queue for a ticket since predictably, the queues would be snaking around and it would take at least 30 minutes to get to the ticket teller.
In the US, several papers had Harry Potter in their mastheads, and a few had a front-page feature on the Harry Potter mania:
